Dorset Waterfront Development Plan and Downtown Study

The Township of Lake of Bays in partnership with the Dorset Community Partnership (DCP), Lake of Bays Marine Museum & Navigation Society (SS Bigwin) and FedNor are pleased to announce the launch of a community-based planning strategy for Dorset’s waterfront and downtown area. urbanMetrics inc. and Dillon Consulting Limited have been retained to work with residents, businesses and other local stakeholders to create a vision for a dynamic, year-round waterfront and downtown experience.

The primary objective of this study is to establish a refined land use concept that considers the following overall objectives:

-to enhance pedestrian connections between public assets and attractions;
-to promote tourism, economic development and job creation;
-to ensure shoreline preservation;
-to improve public access and visitation from cottagers and tourists;
-to ensure that public and private assets are well-positioned to support enduring community-based partnerships; and
-to ensure the plan is financially sustainable for stakeholders, including taxpayers.

As we begin the process, we need your insight and ideas to help create a vision for our waterfront and most important community assets.
