In the Community
Anchored in Community
The Lake of Bays Marine Museum and Navigation Society is proud to be an active part of the fabric of Muskoka. Our mission extends beyond the deck of the SS Bigwin and the walls of the museum — we are committed to strengthening the communities around Lake of Bays through partnerships, education, and shared celebration of our heritage.
Local Partnerships
We work closely with organizations across the region to promote tourism, preserve history, and support local businesses:
- Township of Lake of Bays — Collaborative efforts in heritage tourism and community events
- Dorset Heritage Committee — Joint initiatives to celebrate and preserve the village’s rich history
- Local Lodges & Restaurants — Cruise & Dine partnerships that showcase the best of Muskoka hospitality
- Regional Tourism Organizations — Promoting Lake of Bays as a premier destination in Ontario’s cottage country
Education Programs
We believe that understanding our past helps us build a better future. Our education programs include:
- School Group Visits — Guided museum tours and onboard learning experiences for students of all ages
- Heritage Talks — Guest speakers and presentations on maritime history, boat building, and environmental stewardship
- Youth Volunteering — Opportunities for young people to get involved in heritage preservation and community service
Community Events
From the annual gala to special holiday cruises, Canada Day celebrations, and dock-side open houses, we host events throughout the season that bring neighbours and visitors together. Check our events page for upcoming activities.
